Interactive Seminar on Innovation with Prof. Andrew M. Isaacs
Course Dates：Saturday, July 25th from 9:30am-10:00am
Today, Innovation is the most important business topic to master. Innovation means “To create something that is both new and useful.”
The reason for becoming an expert on Innovation is fundamental to business: our world is being transformed by the use of machines that exceed the limits of human thinking in terms of speed, accuracy and analytical ability.
This is the second time in human history that we have seen such a dramatic transition in business and society – the first time was 200 years ago with the Industrial Revolution. Whereas the Industrial Revolution gave us machines that took the place of human physical labor, this Second Industrial Revolution gives us machines that both mimic and take the place of the human mind
It is no surprise that the most successful companies today are ones that are leading the way in this transformation from creating value in the physical world to creating value in the virtual world. In this class, we will explore how these companies achieve their success.
Prof. Issacs teaches the Opportunity Recognition course for BHGAP. Isaacs teaches five MBA and Executive-level courses at UC Berkeley, and has instructed over 2,000 students.
Introduction to Fintechwith Prof. Gregory La Blanc
The world of finance is undergoing a fundamental transformation. As big data becomes essential and machine learning infiltrates all aspects of business, the financial services sector can no longer do business as usual. Whether it is commercial banking, investment banking, borrowing and lending, investment management, insurance or payments, financial institutions have to learn from Google, Facebook, Alibaba, Tencent, and Amazon about how to better serve the customer and make better products built on customization and personalization. The recent Covid-19 crisis has forced every company to accelerate its digital transformation. This class will drill into what that means for finance.
Fintech is about how finance is transformed by technology and how software, data lakes, analytics, distributed ledgers, and APIs are at the core of every finance function. In this session, we will discuss the basic trends at the confluence of finance and technology, how the big companies along with small agile startups are eating away at the dominance of the legacy financial institutions, and how those institutions are responding.
Prof. La Blanc teaches the Fintech course in BHGAP. He teaches primarily in the areas of finance and strategy in the MBA and Masters of Financial Engineering programs and in Executive Education
